Ingredients
2 pounds potatoes, peeled and thinly sliced
2 cups cooked ham, diced
2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
1½ cups milk
1 cup heavy cream
2 tablespoons butter
2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
2 cloves garlic, minced
½ teaspoon onion powder
½ teaspoon paprika
½ teaspoon dried thyme
Salt and black pepper, to taste
1 tablespoon chopped fresh parsley
Instructions
Preheat the oven: Set your oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9 × 13-inch baking dish with butter.
Prepare the potatoes: Peel and slice the potatoes into thin, even rounds so they cook evenly.
Make the creamy sauce: Melt the butter in a saucepan over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and cook for about 30 seconds. Stir in the flour and cook for one minute. Gradually whisk in the milk and heavy cream until smooth and slightly thickened.
Season the sauce: Add the onion powder, paprika, thyme, salt, and black pepper. Stir in 1 cup of cheddar cheese until melted.
Assemble the casserole: Arrange half of the sliced potatoes in the baking dish. Add half of the diced ham and pour over some of the cheese sauce. Repeat with the remaining potatoes, ham, and sauce.
Add the cheese topping: Sprinkle the remaining cheddar and mozzarella cheese evenly over the top.
Bake: Cover with foil and bake for 45 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for another 20–25 minutes, until the potatoes are fork-tender and the cheese is golden and bubbly.
Rest and serve: Let the casserole rest for 10 minutes before serving. Garnish with fresh parsley and enjoy.

Tips for the Best Casserole
Slice the potatoes evenly to help them cook at the same rate.
Use leftover baked ham or thick-cut cooked ham for extra flavor.
Cover the dish during the first part of baking to help soften the potatoes.
Allow the casserole to rest before cutting so the creamy sauce can thicken.
For extra flavor, add sautéed onions or a little Parmesan cheese to the topping.
Storage and Reheating
Store leftover casserole in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3–4 days. Reheat individual portions in the microwave or warm the casserole in a 350°F oven until heated through. You can also freeze portions in freezer-safe containers for up to 2 months, although the creamy sauce may change texture slightly after thawing.
